Uh, just an idea, but couldn't you use the +nnnn syntax to position
your fields after the 255 column position? So, you have a 5A field
defined at 250, the next should be at 260, make the next position
     +0005.

I haven't tried it, but it could be a possibility.

You could create a field long enough to take you from column 254 to 275,
then format the output in a data structure and move the data structure into
the field just before printing the line. Or use EVAL statement to fill the
field. But for easier maintenance, I think I would use the data structure.
(sounds a little like COBOL. Hmmm...)

Subject: DDS 255 Column limit

Hi all,

This is similiar to a RLU question posted yesterday, but didn't see an
answer to it specifically, so here is my problem:

We are trying to create a very wide report, 275 characters (20 CPI, legal
size paper), but DDS cannot start a field past column 255. It can print
past 255 as long as the field starts before 255. Does anyone know of a
work-around on this? The only thing I can think of is using a internally
defined printer file which wouldn't be the worse thing, just wondering if
there is an alternative.

TIA!
Rick
