Yes it can be done in an FTP session.  Although I did have a customer that was 
using ftp to us for EDI and they had problems with RS/6000.  PC was no problem. 
 From FTP on my pc I used:
quote rcmd sndmsg msg(test) tousr(rob)
and got on my 400:
From  . . . :   QTCP           07/10/00   16:45:44

I need to run a Program on the as/400 from a RS/6000.  Can you do this in a
