Hello there,

We are having problems with retrieving emails.

We have AS400 – V3R7 and NT on the same network – and using TCP/IP. AS400 is
the email server and using Client Access for W95/NT.(Most of the
workstations are running W98)

There is a case when several clients are getting message "ERROR – unable to
log on to the mail server" – from Outlook, or MS Exchange 95. If Outlook
Express is used – just repeating asking for Username and password.

If logged with another username/password we could establish working
connection on the same workstation.

On the AS400 side – netstat is as usual – all in state listen. Logs on QTCP,
QMSF looks OK. That user could still sign on to the AS400 (and in some cases
they are even able to send out email).

I’ve seen that sometimes restarting the TCPIP is solving the problem, but
that is major inconvenience – stopping all users of their normal work?

My question is – is there a way to find what the problem is, what is causing
these problems, and finally – how to fix it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Valentin - vpetrov@acmesteel.com
