Title: RE: how to add 10,000 records to new file with one field setequal tocounter
Bill - thanks!  That is exactly what I was looking for.  I will give it a try - great idea.

I really wasn't so concerned about solving this current problem, but I wanted to know how to do this without writing a pgm.  I figured that there must be a way!

Joel,

Here is one way to do it.

SQL -> Create Table QTemp/Test   (Fielda  dec(5,0))
CL -> InzPFM file(QTemp/Test) totrcds(10000)
SQL -> Update QTemp/Test Set fielda=rrn(Test)

Business problem:

Salesperson file exists to validate salesperson ID during order entry.  For testing, I wanted to populate the entire file with all possible salespeople (0001 thru 9999) so users can test application and not worry about entering an invalid salesperson ID.

Any better ideas???

I was curious to know if this is possible on the /400 with a tool such as SQL or Query/400 or something else without writing a program!
