Is this a multiformat logical file or a physical file
that has multiple record formats all internally defined?
Basically are you sure that you defined the length of
the file to the length of the largest record format? I
suspect the physical based on the EXCPT statement, although
this can be used on the logical as well. (I do not want
to get into an arguement about internal vs external files.
I want to help him solve his immediate problem.)

Subject: EXCPT

Hello,

I have a file with multiple record formats. I'm using EXCPT to update some
fields in one of the record formats. All the fields I want to update are
defined in the O-Spec Exception record for this record format.
When I do an EXCPT, not all the fields I've defined in the Exception record
are getting updated. I've made sure all the fields that need to get updated
have new values before I issued EXCPT.
I do not know if the rest of this text helps but this is what I've noticed.
The record length of the record format I'm doing an EXCPT on is 1800. All
the fields before the buffer position 1054 got updated fine and none of the
fields beyond that positon got updated.
Any Insights and help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,
Balaji
