I see nothing wrong with connecting your system console to #9149.
This is exactly what it is for.
Primary console address is Port 0 Address 0. Secondary console is Port 0
Address 1.
If you managed to connect to "port 0/1", then what you have seen was
secondary console.
It means that your #9149 does work.
You need to understand why you could not connect your 3197C as a primary
console.
Did you have one of its two sessions configured with address 0?
I would suggest that smth is wrong with your 3197C configuration.

Subject: "system consule" question re-write

Hi,
I have rewritten questions aboubt how to set up the "system consule"
correctly
I need the CL commands to get me out of trouble as of course I have only
worked on VB C/S programming for the AS/400 over the last year and a half .
I must own up despite being on this list for that long I have not got very
far into learning aboubt OS/400 but now with a
new risc machine--model 500 with a 2617 ethernet card I hope to get
inspired!

Auto-config set up the "system consule" for me.On my first IPL I
connected via a 3197C dual session display to the "Wrong card" its a
feature #9149 (Twinaxial Passthru Adapter) .No wonder it would not come
alive with a sign on screen until I
set the 2nd address to port 0/1!

Anyway I have 3 x 6050 Workstation IOP cards installed Card Pos 3,6,7.How
to
I
set up one of these to be Port0/address 0.

I have a full hardware dump printout from the previous owner listing all
the
resourses and logial
names-which I dont understand?ie 6050 CARDs installed on
Card Pos 3=resourcename WS03 ,CTL06--LOGIAL ADDRESS 1/1/0/7-/////
Card Pos 6= resource name WS02,CTL01--LOGIAL ADDRESS 1/1/0/4-/////,
Card Pos 7=resource name WS04,CTL02--LOGIAL ADDRESS 1/1/0/2-/////

at the moment Im set up on via 9149 port0,add1--possibly on CTL04
Subsystem QCTL
Display DSP01
I somehome need to move this to one of the 6050 cards-Would the 6050
installed in Card Pos 6 be the right one to use?
AutoConfig is on and
Im running V3R7 on a 9406-model500

cheers Dave
