Hi David,
The operator panel is hinged on the bottom so it will flip down from top
(sometimes are a bit tight though) and yes that is where the power switch
and function display are housed.
I would imagine once you plug the machine in it will show 01 B, for a normal
IPL, if you want to change this you will have to use the plastic key to
allow you to move between the different modes ( just plug the key in and
press the mode button and up/down keys until the required is highlighted) At
any time you can select function 1 which will show you what type of IPL is
selected.

To move from normal IPL to manual IPL just use the key to select manual mode
and then press the big white power button. Or to select various different
IPL types insert the key, select the required mode for the function (you can
check these in the Service Functions manual) and then use the up and down
arrows to move to the IPL you want then press the enter button to select it
and then the power button to do it.
If you have real trouble and don't have a console to work with etc. you
should be able to move to function 8 which is a forced power off, not the
nicest thing to have to do though !!
