We have this set up in our site on an 9406-740 and a 730 it works very well. We
did not put in modems on the PC though, we opted to install PC Anywhere on it
(OPS console PC) and then control access to it (IP address dialed in user can
see) through our Shiva remote Access server, then from there we PC Anywhere into
the box. Also the PC Anywhere sessions have been protected by user name and
password.

Thanks Dave,

I appreciate your detailed response. This does sound like a good product, my
only concern is the security issue. We have our own internal network and I
would have been more comfortable using the LAN or carving out some bandwidth for
a leased line.

Just to clarify, what does the remote user at the RCS need to do to access the
LCS in unattended mode (i.e. first invoke RSC client, then enter a DST password,
then enter NT userid and password). I'm trying to assess if this will be
considered 'secure' enough to satisfy our internal audit and data security
folks. What's your opinion regarding the security in your current dialup
configuration? Do you think that this setup is unique enough to not worry about
hackers trying to get past the password security?

In past lives, this would have saved me many trips to an unattended computer I
was managing. It was almost an hour's drive one way from my home. But that
was back before this was an option, in the V3R7 days, circa 1997 ......

Thanks again for the help,
Glenn
