Title: RE: DRDA setup

DRDA (Distributed Relational Database Architecture) is an LU6.2 Cross platform 2 phase commit way of writing a program. DRDA collectively refers to those things that let you do this. E.g. Say I have a table called X on the mainframe and a table called Y on the AS400B; I need to process changes to tables X and Y that are dependant upon each other. Using DRDA, I can write a DRDA program using DUW (Distributed unit of work) that alternately connects to each Database and do my updates and one commit across both platforms. The program is compiled on the AS400 and you specify the remote database, the compile process will bind the program to the remote database. If you have DB/2 and can make SNA connections, you can do DRDA programs.

This is sort of a simplistic  explanation but I have a easy to follow example. If you want it let me know and I will dig it out.

OK, quick (and maybe dumb) question.  DRDA, is this a seperate product?
If SQL is on the machine, then is DRDA part of that?  If so how the heck
do you get to it.  If not, how do I tell IBM that I want it (they are as
confused as I am).  If anyone can shed light on this, I would appreciate
it.

Thanks

john
