Have you tried *DEFAULT in place of DEFAULT with asterisk in front?
SQL is like 5th language for me so I am a novice guessing a bit here.

One thing I have found to be extremely helpful is to go into the Message
Member where it stores the SQL error messages, then look at the addtional
detail ... this is like second level help on an OS/400 error message ...
cursor on error message & F1 to get more info ... well the SQL error messages
are like that also ... my pre-compile fail on SQLRPG has summarized error
messages that are somewhat clueless, but then I go into the second level help
on SQL error messages & there's a mini-essay there that sometimes takes me
further.

Y2K is not the end of my universe, but a re-boot of that old Chinese curse.
When in doubt, read the manual, assuming you can find the right one.
