I found Bob's opening quite negative. I too thought that COMMON
could have found a better opening speaker than him, (or maybe it
was his topic). I wrote so on my evaluation. Perhaps they've taken
cost cutting to the extreme.

The reason that the AS/400 is so good is because it is IBM. The
idea that someone else could have done as well as IBM did with the
400 is ludicrous. The people I've worked with at IBM have always
been outstanding. From the people in early ship working hard to
assure you of the quality, to the CE's and the training and support,
to the designers who have integrated the new technologies that IBM
has come out with, and the numerous others.

I found Frank's talk on the marketing of the 400 at LotusSphere to
be quite an eye opener. Maybe the 'battleship' marketing will work.
Now, how can they fire that battleship at CEO's for ERP solutions?

Probably the best 24k I've downloaded in a long time!

Bob Crothers
Cornerstone Communications

Following is Bob Tipton's address to COMMON. IBM claims it was way to
negative, and shouldn't have been used for the opening, but the customers
thought it was a very well done reality check...
