This doesn't seem like a simple thing, assuming that the in house order
entry is complicated because it can't help being complicated.

Do customer #, item, and quantity really cover everything in the process?

If you have to validate things like those three fields plus ability to fill
the order, credit worthiness, and probably a few others that I can't think
of off the top of my head it seems like six weeks won't give you enough time
to do it right, especially if you're doing it real time.  

If it were possible, I'd pitch streamlining the process as phase II and make
phase II look like it can arrive pretty quickly.
