 That was Walker: Texas Ranger.  They had a graphics screen on top of it and a
remote unit that a kid with a huge IQ could talk to.  And just like HAL the S/36
began to slow down when they started removing the brains (Diskette magazines in
the 72MD autoloader).  Walker of course got there just in time to replace the
magazines and 'save' the machine.
They had also removed the control panel cover so you could see 'das blinkin
lights'.
