 The reason code you are getting sounds like an adapter problem. Who at IBM
checked this out? Did they take traces of the line etc? 
If your help stopped at level 1 support, I would ask that the problem be
escalated until you get things resolved. Your problem description sounds
like this started happening once you installed OS/400 V4R4 -- I think I
would be pushing the AS/400 side for any microcode and/or protocol related
issues (i.e. if you are using TCP, make sure there aren't TCP PTF's you are
missing, if SNA look for SNA issues).
 I'd also be sure the CUME (and possibly the HIPER group PTF) are up to
snuff.
