Hello Jeff,

A)  It's an INQUIRY message, not a DIAGNOSTIC message

B) Only exceptions can be monitored, i.e., *ESCAPE, *NOTIFY, and *STATUS 
messages.

C) Your program looses control when the inquiry message is sent.  Control is 
only returned when the message is 
answered.

The solution is to change the job attribute for inquiry messages.  In this case 
it apears that you want to Cancel, so 
CHGJOB INQMSGRPY(*DFT) should work.  Run this command in your batch job.

If you want to choose the reply then you need to set up reply list entries for 
the messages (see the ADDRPYLE 
command) and tell the job to use the reply list by specifying CHGJOB 
INQMSGRPY(*SYSRPYL).
