Let me scream, holler, rant and rave yet again....

You guys may think it is progress to be sticking all this stuff into RPG,
and probably it is. But a few years from now when RPG is cluttered up with
all sorts of specialized little tricks, where will the programmers to
maintain it be found? What qualified C programmer is going to be doing RPG
maintenance work?

Jon thinks 10000.01 is a pain in the butt... wait til this stuff starts
hitting the update fan.

Sorry. I'll be quiet now. No need to call the authorities.

(Sigh)

Not more than a week ago, we had a very similar discussion
either here or on RPG400-L.

For a discussion on translating C prototypes to RPG, read
<http://www.springfieldtn.net/users/leslier/callc.html>

To see a list of function in the C runtime library, go to
<http://publib.boulder.ibm.com:80/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/QBJAQY01/1.10>

Here's an example in RPG IV of calling rand and srand:

---------------------------------------------------------------
H dftactgrp(*no) bnddir('QC2LE')
D rand            pr            10i 0 extproc('rand')
D srand           pr                  extproc('srand')
D                               10i 0 value
D num             s             10i 0
D i               s             10i 0
C                   callp     srand(123)
C                   for       i = 1 to 10
C                   eval      num = rand
C     num           dsply
C                   endfor
C                   eval      *inlr = *on
----------------------------------------------------------------

This program displays 10 pseudo-random numbers.

Cheers!  Hans
