Hi Phil + Others,

I bought a 150 here in the UK over a year ago and would thoroughly receommend
it.

The deal was £4,300 for the box with operating system (QRY and client access
included) - other programming environments come extra (£600) only COBOL in my
case.
and if you are programming you will also need to get PDM extra (Again £600).
Modem to hook up to clients sites was also extra (£700). The whole deal was
about £6,000.

Then you just plug into the wall socket and away you go. It could not be
simpler.

I had trouble with the modem and recently the tape drive and on both occassions
an IBM engineer came to my house to fix it.
for free. He looked a little bemused at not being on site at some EDP centre.

I would also recommend getting a friendly and knowledgeable agent to purchase
from. Going through official IBM channels took me about three months by which
time I had already bought it off my local hardware supplier. IBM really are
useless in sales and marketing (at least in the UK).

Now that the RISC boxes have been out for some time it may be worth looking at
the second-user market. These can be incredibly inexpensive - i.e my first box
(CISC F10) was only £900.

Regards,

Chris
