XML is NOT a company-driven initiative (can you say "IBM" and "SAA"?); it is
an INDUSTRY-driven movement.

And even better, it is based on ISO standards and is being SUCCESSFULLY
driven by the Open Source movement.

(If you are not up-to-snuff on the open source movement and how incredibly
profound an impact it is and will have, hop over to www.opensource.org and
start reading. Now.)

Imagine your company EASILY interacting with its vendors and customers.
Sharing data over the 'net.

Imagine your single source vendor decides to change their network from
AS/400 to (shudder) Windows 2000. Using XML, it's nothing to you.

The BUSINESS case IN FAVOR OF XML is very, very strong. Strong enough to
cause a problem for someone who ignores it.

Add Java and (in the words of MY favorite TV show host) "BAM!" ... you've
"kicked it up a few notches".

Lemme toss this out: Did you know that there is a FREE tool that will allow
you to design a Java app user interface using XML. That interface uses
SWING. Now THAT is cool. And POWERFUL. AND ... get this ... FREE! Stinkin'
FREE.

But I digress...

Ignore XML.

At your own risk.

Scott,

You hit it dead on. My thoughts exactly. Throw in a buzzword
or two, and
it has to be something great.
