RE: XML and AS/400

You hit it dead on.  My thoughts exactly.  Throw in a buzzword or two, and
it has to be something great.

When our corp needed a way for all our companies to commnunicate, we had
three choice.  One, X.12.  Two, a way that another company made up that
consisted of formatting data by it's position (parsing it with DSs), and
third, one I came up with that was almost exactly the same as XML.  Not just
tagging, but also setting up valid tags, etc. to define documents, pieces of
a document, etc.

We ended up going with the second method.  It's working well, but not as
flexible.

So, XML isn't new, as you say, it's just a new way of doing things.  Because
it is similar to HTML, which is internet which is java which is linux which
is buzz...  it has to be the best way to do things.
