The market for AS/400 consultants between Chicago, Madison, WI and
Milwaukee, WI. is steady. What I saw in management last year was a
reluctance to add qualified staff to support the AS/400's. So,
they assign someone in-house to perform their basic operations and
administrative duties without the knowledge to configure these
systems correctly, right from the start and minimize their
administrative costs. This presents wonderful opportunities to
correct all aspects of their systems, from security to performance.
This is especially true when companies hire RPG programmers (power
and control experts) to adminster their systems. Even more
opportunity here! There are exceptions to every rule and I
acknowledge that. We see it with PC's and networks too. I am
familiar with a local company that moved 37 of their NT boxes to the
AS/400. Why would an organization do something like this? It's
smart and it's simple! The Consolidation Concept started 20 years
ago. IS Management that took the risks shined in the industry. With
the enormous flooding of PC's (points of failure) in business it
won't take IS management long to re-group again. And But of
Course - the AS/400 is a wonderful platform to do it on. Reduce
administrative costs, increase system availability and utilize the
investment already made in resources. The old saying still holds
true, You can pay now or you can pay later. Lack of properly
planning and implementing any system or network results in positive
job oportunities for us. These types of businesses are continuing
to grow in the Midwest. I expect they are everywhere. Although a
particular locale may be slow, it is temporary and important that we
continue to provide positive, cost-effective business solutions to
any company in any geographic location.

Keep up the good work and have a great week!
