Here it is right from the Sales Manual:

5294 Remote Control Unit:

     or higher.) 

5394 Remote Control Unit:

1.0 or higher.) 

System Attachment: 

An interface card and twinaxial connector are included with the 4224 for
direct attachment to a System/36
(5360, 5362, 5363, and 5364) Workstation Controller, a System/38
Workstation Controller-Extended, an
AS/400 System Twinaxial Workstation Controller, a 5294 Remote Control
Unit with an available
workstation port and Extended Function A (#3601), or a 5394 Remote
Control Unit with an available
workstation port. Cable-thru and termination are standard through the
use of a U-connector included with
the 4224. System/36 SSP must be at Release 5.1, System/38 CPF must be at
Release 8.0, and AS/400
OS/400 must be at Release 1.0 or higher.
