Before I was a programmer I spent many years as a heat treater.  Genuinely
filthy environment.  I don't know what they're doing now, but 10 years ago
membrane keypads were pretty much the standard on programmable furnace
controllers.  They held up pretty well.

After I finally quit it took over a month to get the ground in oil and filth
out of my hands.
