When I was cutting my teeth as a sysop for a very old machine (won't
tell ... don't want to fire up the geezer contest again <g>), the
secretary of this service bureau had enough spare time that he (yes, he)
read the hardware manuals and discovered how to bypass the governor.

Took the machine up a full notch and became their in-house hardware
guru.
