Support for non-AS/400 userids & passwords (via validation lists - *VLDL)
for PPP & SLIP was actually added in V4R2 as part of the OpsNav solution.
Art is right that SPIs are used by OpsNav to communicate with the host
400, but since they are SPIs they are not externalized. Art is also right
that it would be tricky to implement PPP support via SPI since each is very
specialized and order dependant. The need to be able to configure and use
PPP via greenscreen has been noted - most notibly by LUG (as well as for
many other GUI only solutions besides PPP), since many consultants, etc...
need to be able to manage these things from a central point and may not
even have an OpsNav connection yet. A PPP solution for this problem is
being looked into.

A previous post also mention 2745 support. That was originally missed (thus
the lack of documentation on it), but is now supported in V4R3 (Client
Access service pak 4 - SF55446) and V4R4 (I think CA service pak 2)

I know this maybe opening a can of worms :-)......but for those of you who
have used the PPP support, could you give me any feedback on things that
you don't like about it and think should be changed (any why)? Also
anything not currently supported, but you think should? We are in the
process of trying to 'simplify' as well as expand our support and I thought
that any additional input from those who actually use our PPP support would
be a good thing. No promises though :-).

Additional late breaking information can be found on our TCP/IP webpage:
www.as400.ibm.com/tcpip/ppp
This is being continously updated (and is still a bit of a
work-in-progress), and includes additional info on things like ISDN
support, latest PTFs, etc....

Thanks,

Mark Bullock
