message: Are the four programs calling each other? In that case 
PARM is far the most readable method (and the cheapest though
we talk about millisec's).
Remember, that CLP as standard uses Packed Decimal. Take care that
the RPG does not redefine as zoned (or use *CHAR + CHGVAR in CLP and 
zoned in RPG)
