I got a 10/100 autosensing 5 port switch, two 10/100 nics, 2 25' Cat-5
cables for $103 (open box special at Best Buy, normally $139).

Networked the house, works great.  So far 3 pcs on the network, and all
share cable internet.  Using NAT instead of proxy.  VPN works over NAT which
is why I like it.  (Sygate).

I would say you should be able to find a hub or swich for under $150 easy.
