RE: changing defaults?

Barbara,

You make a valid point about the possibility of the interface between the
command and it's CPP changing.  But it's been my experience (and yours too I
suspect) that IBM has always tried hard to avoid doing these kinds of
changes.  When we first started using OS/400 (actually the OS on the S/38
before that!) I used to worry about such things, but as the years and
releases have gone by, I have found that I haven't needed to.

But you run the risk of the interface between the command and its CPP.
changing.  If you are lucky, your version of the command would break
noisily.  If you are unlucky, it would fail silently (appear to run
fine, but not do what you want).

A better way is to add your CHGCMDDFT to a CL program that you run
whenever you get a new release of OS/400.

It's still a good idea to leave the original command alone and only
change a copy though.  Even better is give a new name to the version
with different defaults.
