When you add up the cost of the servers in the farm, the licensed and
registered software they all require, and everyone registers and pays for
every instance of installation of the software, quantify the down-time and
reboot time and lost productivity I don't think it's cheaper! There are so
many that are convinced that its OK for software to crash frequently on a PC
because the little pop-up box tells you that its OK that it just crashed
instead of providing information about why and what the problem was and how
to correct it, we just have to agree that it must be OK and click OK.

But that's not the biggest issue to me. It's the true deviousness of
Microsoft. When Sun defined java and IBM embraced it and Netscape supported
it, MS changed it. Now the idea of write once on any machine and use
anywhere is shot because MS doesn't want that. Try writing a java
application that will run under Netscape and IE! It ain't gonna work. So
you have to code for each, a complete waste of time (and money)!! Hmm, what
about the c++ compilers and development environments? Borland's was great,
the only one on the block, MS created their own and changed the rules in
their OS so the MS version works better.

When you control the rules you always win the game.
