Lest anyone be confused, MIMIX works on LPAR machines as well. In fact,
everybody's software works on LPAR - that's the way it's designed - to be
transparent to the software - and it is.

A word of caution.....don't think that if you set up a single LPAR system
with a primary and backup partitions that you have better availability
than if you used two separate systems. You have to keep in mind where the
single points of failure are - in a single system with multiple LPAR
partitions, you have MORE single points of failure, not less.

Having said that, LPAR is a wonderful enabling technology. One of the
attributes I like is the ability to configure "systems" (ie partitions)
with processors multiples that cannot be purchased directly from IBM. For
example, I can configure a 12-way into a 5-way, and 2 3-ways (plus the
hypervisor). Try to buy a 5-way or 3-way processor machine from IBM.

FYI!

I spoke with the DataMirror Support Technicians yesterday and
verified that their software does support LPAR's on a single AS/400.

Bob, Christina, +++  ---

There is some confusion here Mirroring is a hardware function High
Avilability type thing restricted to a "single" AS/400 and therefore a
"single" LPAR Partition as well, to my knoweldge. With the last few
releases of the OS we have seen remote journals, DataPropagator, and
intergrated Cluster / Fail Over support from Rochester. As well as a
significant strengthing of the existing products like Mimix, and Data
Mirror, Etc. So while your data can be available on multiple systems
simultaneously it is not mirrored...

Here are some references from my book markets on data availability
clustering.

Jeff,

If you set up a LPAR partition and used remote mirroring between the two
LPARs, would this work?
