I have seen this twice but both were some time ago (V3R1 timeframe). In the
worst case it was an F20 and although we could see the increase with F5 on
WRKSYSTS we had enough time for a CE to arrive, get rochester on the phone and
then proceed to watch just like us. The disk drives (6 of em I think) were
absolutely scrambling the entire time. The sytem went from 55% full to 98%+
during which time we got all users off and shut down all subsystems. Some time
after hitting 98% the drives got busy again but this time storage fell back to
55% in under 1/2 hour. After starting the subsystems back up all was normal-we
didn't even IPL. We got a couple storage dumps during the process and they went
off to MN but we never heard a peep. It never happened again either.
