I can tell a similar story. After a continuing SNADS problem that was causing a
client considerable difficulty I went to IBM and requested assistance in solving
it. After extensive analysis I was told that the bug was in a section of
corrupt licensed internal code, related to a dodgy PTF. I expressed some
disbelief at this answer. IBM insisted the only way to fix the problem was to
rebuild the entire system. I was horrified. No way could a large industrial
company go down for two days whilst we rebuilt their system. I sought advice
elsewhere from a few friends in the industry. After some further analysis the
problem was tracked to a dodgy communications entry in QCMN. When the client
got a bill from IBM I told them not to pay.

To echo what others have said ... Big Blue ain't what she used to be.

Subject: V4R4 Upgrade Problem/Question

Greetings,

Over the weekend one of my customers made the move to V4R4 on their
Model 500. After the PTF CUM apply the system came up with A900 2000
on the panel (Can't find the console). The console device and all
devices on CTL01 were not functioning. They called support (starting
with hardware ending up with $upportline) and over a lot of hours IBM
decided to replace CTL01 but this did not help. Their final
suggestion: Repload the system starting with SLIC. (Thanks
'microsoft')
