WOW thanks for all the great advice, I was not expecting such a response.  

I don't believe that using email to page someone would be a very good idea, 
unless you were not very mission critical.  What are you going to do if TCP or 
the mail server goes down? it will have no way of paging you.  I would have a 
lot of people mad if it went down and I was not notified, and thinking 
everything is fine.   So if you were to use email you would still need a modem 
to be able to page you if certain things happen.   Well I guess you would never 
be able to address every possibility.  I have come to the conclusion that I 
shall propose to purchase some software.   probably message plus from byteware. 
it will be cheaper in the long run they to wast all my time programming my one 
app. and I will have support and a lot more versitilty with it.
