I've seen names such as Jim.Meck.Langston@conexgloballogistics.com (not
my e-mail, I'd never make someone type that in) and that is 42 characters long.
That was basically made up, but I have seen addresses very similar.

Hmm.. considering if I was using an AS/400 type address it might change it to
Jim.Meck.Langston:as400server@conexgloballogisticsservices.com and that
is a whopping 62 characters long.  Yes, some people have to live with such
tongue twisters.

To be on the safe side you might want to put in 80 chars.

Yeah, 64 chars will serve you 99% of the time I am sure.  But do you want
some unknown user down the road cussing out the unknown programmer (you)
who wouldn't let him e-mail his poor mother in Afghanistan who is dying of 
cancer

just because her e-mail address is 65 characters long?

I would put in at LEAST 80, do it for the mother in Afghanistan.
