I forwarded your company info to our procurement department.

A COBOL copybook is used to define data fields in a file.  Multiple definitions
can be used for the same data file.  Our concern is whether we create DDS for 
the
files and use SQL to create reports or buy a COBOL compiler, use existing
copybook definitions, and then have to write a COBOL program everytime a report
is required..  It would be nice to have the best of both worlds by converting 
the
copybook definitions to DDS if there's a utility available anywhere to do that.
This data is all the historical data currently on the mainframe but the 
mainframe
is scheduled to be removed shortly.  Reporting against the data is not required
immediately but will be before year end.
