Many thanks to Patrick Townsend..... I turned on the flight data recorders and found my problem. Turned out that the SMTP name I was using in the directory entry for SMTP name, the domain name was not valid. I was using the machine name.domain.com. It turned out that the SMTP server did not recognize the whole name as a valid domain, so it rejected it! Thanks again Patrick.
