We have set up our wokstations printers etc to work under Client Access
using TCP-IP.

I need to prevent SNDTCPSPLF sending back messages saying 'spool file
received etc.'

I am doing report distribution using SNDTCPSPLF, and SNDTCPSPLF is
sending messages back saying that the report is sent successfully. I do
not need the messages, nor do I want them going to the Users msgq.
Sometimes, and I am not sure what causes this, the message from
SNDTCPSPLF is sent as a spool file. (see example below)

EXAMPLE OF A MESSAGE FROM SNDTCPSPLF SENT TO A USER

Spooled file ACRR508P received from remote user SSA.

The help text of this message is shown below.

 Message ID . . . . . . : TCP3602 Severity . . . . . . . : 00
 Message type . . . . . : Information
 Date sent . . . . . . : 16/06/99 Time sent . . . . . . :
22:28:36

 Message . . . . : Spooled file ACRR508P received from remote user
SSA.
 Cause . . . . . : Spooled file ACRR508P was received from remote user
SSA,
on remote system REVAUST.SNA.IBM.COM. It was received for local user
SSA.
Recovery . . . : The LPR client intended for the file ACRR508P to be
put on
output queue AULVTODO, in library *LIBL. If file ACRR508P was not
found on
the output queue AULVTODO, then look for it on the default system
output
queue QPRINT, in library QGPL. If the output queue AULVTODO does not
exist
or the user lacks spool authority to it, the file goes to the default
system
   output queue.

Please note we have used and have rejected the CPYSPLF to DB file and
DB file to SPOOL file because
certain spool file attributes can be lost.

We are using SNDNETSPLF and this is a bit cumbersome because we have to
constantly change a USER PROFILE to be able to control the destination
OUTQ. We have set up a number of profiles corresponding to OUTQs, but
have the occasional problem with jobs trying to send to the same Q at
the same time and we but in certain lock control processes.

I looked in TAATOOLS and the is a promising SPOOL file save and restore
utility BUT it has a couple of 'C' programs and we don't have a C
compiler. The C programs look a bit hairy and I am not confident that I
can convert them to RPG IV.

I also looked at using the SPOOL FILE API's and this seems like the way
to go, but again I am afraid it is beyond my abilities to use the
API's. Is there anyone who has used the SPOOL file APIs successfully
via RPG IV rather than C PASCAL PL1.
