Yeah, that's what I ment... and that's the conclusion I came to also.

I was hoping that someone might know a trick or technique that might
allow a single subfile to be used.

Ah well. :)

I ran into a program similar to what you described...Written is S36 RPGII.
Only is was not a subfile.  Just output a line to the screen with variable
start position and has many as would fit.  I quickly converted to a
sub-file.  PDM does not use subfiles it uses UIM which I have never taken
the time to learn.
