Denis,

Verify should run much faster. The first time you need to use the
prompt dialog and update the cache using the setting tab. On
a direct connection this first verify will usually run about the same
as a regular compile. On a dial-up 56k line it takes a few minutes.
Subsequent verifies can be run using the no prompt option. They
usually take a few seconds for the average 500 line module. I
have noticed that Windows98 seems slower than NT on a faster
machine.

There is an article in this months Midrange Computing that explains
a little bit more about using and setting up Code/400. The article
also explains where to get more help/information.

Hello all,

I downloaded the CODE/400 trial demo and i have a couple of question/remarks:

- When I issue a verify (to check for syntax error), In assume that it is the
PC cpu at work, not the AS/400. But the verify time is as long as the compile
time on the AS/400!! I would think that since it runs on the dedicated PC CPU,
it should be much faster (a comparable Delphi program compiles at least 10
times faster).

May be someone could explained that to me

- Also, i think i read somewhere that you can work "detached" from the AS/400
host. I know i can save localy on my PC the source I am working on but can I
save on my PC the data files required to compile the programs? If yes, how?

- The help text with Code/400 gave me bo help about my previous questions.
Also, I found the help text to be of very low quality (the windowing is kind of
funny among other thing)

- I also have one last disapointment (but then may be it is because i am doing
something wrong): When you want to open a member, you click on the AS/400
server, then you click on the library, then you click on the source phycical
file and then you finally click on the member. You get several seconds of delay
with every click. If the change is a small one, you loose a lot of time just
loading the member (compare that to pdm option 3).

I would aprciate it if someone could direct me to a good spot to get
information on those kind of issu with CODE because I would like to have the
ammunition to convince my coworker to use it.

Thanks
