Jon Paris posted a slick way to do this in March 1998.  Go to
http://www.midrange.com, take the link for MIDRANGE-L Archives and search
for CVTCH.  Basically, you put these prototypes in an RPG IV program and do
a CALLP to do the conversion.  Compile with BNDDIR(QC2LE)  Documentation can
be found in the MI Library reference - there are a lot of "C" functions
there which can be used in your RPG programs just by binding to them!
