You will need:
#7107 System Expansion
#2729 feature attach
8MM tape unit (you pick the model)

Here is the whole deal right out of the book:

Internal Tape Features

2.5GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape (#6381)

This optional 2.5GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape Unit can be mounted in the
system unit to provide
compatibility with S/36 tape units. With a special compression format
this tape unit supports 5.0GB. This
compression format is not compatible with compaction on the #6385. It
may be used for save/restore,
alternate IPL, program distribution, migration, and 1/4-Inch Cartridge
Tape exchange.

4.0GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape (#6382)

This optional 4.0GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape Unit is mounted in the
system unit. This tape unit does not
read or write the System/36 QIC-24 format. With a special compression
format this tape unit supports
8.0GB. This compression format is not compatible with compaction on the
#6385. It may be used for
save/restore, alternate IPL, program distribution, migration, and
1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape exchange.

13.0GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape (#6385)

This optional 13.0GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape is mounted in the system
unit. This tape unit is not
compatible with S/36 tape units. With compaction, this tape unit
supports 26GB. Compaction on the
#6385 is not compatible with compaction on the #6381 or #6382. It may be
used for save/restore,
alternate IPL, program distribution, migration, and 1/4-Inch Cartridge
Tape exchange.

25GB 1/4-Inch Cartridge Tape (#6386):

Extends the performance and capacity of 1/4-inch cartridge tape
technology. Native media capacity is
25GB and up to 50GB with data compression. Native performance is 2MB/s
and up to 4MB/s with data
compression. The 25GB MLR3 drive is intended for unattended save/restore
for systems saving up to
50GB, for data interchange, and software distribution. Alternate IPL
(AIPL) is supported.

     #6386 will read/write:

25GB (up to 50GB with compression in MLR3 format) with IBM
MLR3-25GB Data
          Cartridge (59H4128)
16GB (up to 32GB with compression in QIC5010 format) with IBM
MLR1-16GB Data
          Cartridge (59H4175)
13GB (up to 26GB with compression in QIC5010 format) with IBM
DC5010 Data Cartridge
          (16G8574)

     #6386 will read:

8GB (QIC4DC compressed format) with SLR5-4GB Data Cartridge
(59H3660)
5GB (QIC2DC compressed format) with IBM DC9250 Data Cartridge
(16G8436)
          4GB (QIC4GB format) with SLR5-4GB Data Cartridge (59H3660)
          2.5GB (QIC2GB format) with IBM DC9250 Data Cartridge (16G8436)

Prerequisite: OS/400 V4R2, or later. This feature cannot read System/36
tape cartridges.
