So the hype says. The committee is still sitting and the jury is still
out. Unfortunately the EDI world has so much time and money invested in
traditional (X12 style) EDI that your not going to see a massive change
anytime soon. Remember EDI is way of exchanging documents in your
database with your trading partners and as long as those databases
remain the way they are you're going to see a need for some sort of
translator. (We had a debate on database models a while back) When the
software companies like SAP, JDE et al develop their business document
models on the DTD's then we may get around to seeing translator-less
EDI. If you're holding out to see what happens be prepared for a long
wait.
