i was one of those!  and actually, i did understand it.  there was a 2 page
flowchart in the rpg manual, and i would go thru it with my program, and
logically think it through.

i was 19 at the time, and had never even seen a computer.  when i was told i was
assigned to this project, i literally thought i'd be wiring boards.  so it was
all new and strange.  thinking back on the 2 weeks to instant programmer now has
me shaking my head.  how on earth did we manage?
