A SAVSTG is not a very usefull backup. It does a bit level save of the disk
devices and can only be restored to a system with  the same disk configuration.
It is also limited by it's inability to selectively restore... you can only
restore the entire system image.

+/- 45 minutes per tape?  maybe?   You could break it up into pieces by doing

SAVSYS and the SAVDLO one night and a SAVLIB *NONSYS the next night, but either
way it's going to take a while.

Not completely, but you could restore seleced objects and/or libraries to the
system, but restore them to a different library.  Both the RSTLIB and RSTOBJ
commands support an alternate library for the restore.  Make sure that you 
change
the RSTLIB paramerter of the RSTLIB and RSTOBJ commands or else you could
overwrite production data.
