  • Subject: TCP/IP Named Devices & timeout

I have 40-50 users dialing over IBM Global Network to our AS/400, using
a 3rd party telnet product (PowerTerm). Each is configured for a
specific device name. This work fine until a user looses the connection
(Global Network's a little bumpy). When the user dials back, the AS/400
never new they were gone. The named device is in use, and the user gets
a cursor in the upper left corner. I thought about using a short timer
value in sysval QINACTIV, or the telnet inactive timer, but don't want
to time out local users also using telnet. We are at V4R2. Would
appreciate any ideas.
