Don't know what you mean by 'test spool file'.

For a simple SCS-spoolfile the command
CPYSPLF FILE(SPLNAME) TOFILE(MYFILE) CTLCHAR(*PRTCTL)
gives you a good screen-readable view of the most simple attributes
