I have had similar experiences with Notes/Domino.  The sales people
don't seem to be able to explain to technical people what it does.

And they have no clue about any custom programming that a "end-user"
shop could do.  

I got a lot of "you could use it do that" responses.  Which anyone who
has purchased software before reads that as "If you really bend over
backwards it might do that in some form or maybe not"
