Effective with V3R2M0, you need to do the custom CA/400 install to install
all the OpsNav pieces. Or, after the install, use CA/400's Selective Setup
to add the necessary OpsNav stuff. In the Express client, the NetServer
stuff is under OpsNav's Network stuff--I think it's that way also in the GA
clients. Doesn't matter, on your desktop, install all the OpsNav stuff.

There are OS/400 APIs for working with OpsNav, but they don't have a command
interface over them. Amazes me that NEWS or MC (you listening, Shannon!)
hasn't picked up the ball on this and published a cool green NetServer
configurator. For more info on the APIs and NetServer in general, see
www.as400.ibm.com/netserver. Be prepared to be underwhelmed, NetServer sets
a new high water mark in woefully inadequate documentation. (An Express
redbook is due soon to fill in some of the gaps--watch
www.redbooks.ibm.com).

The bottom for AS/400 shops is, if you're using TCP/IP, you HAVE to have one
OpsNav client available to do some AS/400 config and administration (DHCP,
PPP and DNS come to mind). And, let's not start the monthly rant, it doesn't
matter if anyone likes it or not! OpsNav is very important and you'd better
get used to it. OpsNav is here, it works ok (yes, it has more warts and
hairs than the wicked witch of the west, but in spite of its occasional
croak, it does work), you need it, get over it!
