This is an example of poor GUI design.

The date field should allow you to click on a drop arrow that does the 
pretty calendar thing.  OR, it should let you just type in the date is 
032499 then tab on to the next field.

The trick to effective GUI is allowing the "novice" to do stuff 
without handicapping the power user.

And the other trick is that the user needs training on how to do stuff 
the "easy" way.  This is where many companies fall down.

Hotel reservation systems in Gui have at least one annoying 
characteristic.
It takes at least 6 clicks on a drop down box to enter a date...

Click down arrow at month, may have to scroll down, click again to 
select.

Click down arrow at day, probably have to scroll down, click again.

Same for year.

I could just type 031599.

A picture of the calendar is also not that great, especially over the 
web,
because you have to scroll the month forward, usually 3 or 4 clicks.
