A.) Yes date zones is one reason why you would do this.

B.) Based on what I have seen so far and heard in the Lunch & Learns, it
handles it the
       same way to seperate systems would.  AKA: Directory Syncs, or the
Gobal Signon software.

C.) Again, my understanding is that each LPAR partition is a seperate
"system" and an IOP
        can only be owned by a single Partition at one time.  I am not sure
even the 4.4 will let you
         vary of from B, and Vary on in C.  It may require an IPL.

D.) Well the OS/400 and LPP's are a single license. But I have not seen a
software vendor
        even reference the LPAR feature.

    Watch for www.as400.ibm.com/lpar to come online soon, also, check out
the Lucnh & Learn
hand out from Friday's "AS/400 Server Consolidation and I/T Optimization"
presentation.
