So far for the 'shoot at the piano player' section
Now, about the real issue, what about the content of their post ?

At the moment I'm trying to convince our staff for using the AS400 as
web-server (since we do have 20 AS400s installed all ove the country),
opposite to external consultants who are trying to sell Windows NT.

Yes, again, the same old "AS400 is best of all" discussion.

We could keep telling ourselfs -as always- we are the best in the best of
all worlds, and we could repeat it as many times untill we would ever
believe it, sorry but can this still work ?

If AS400 people themself say they can't use the AS400 because development
takes too long
(allthough they are used to work with it, I suppose).

Wonderfull to tell the machine would be 99,9% up,... only, ... if one would
be able to put it up ... .

Quote: "We've approached IBM for help, without much success. Nonetheless,
as soon as the
software compatibility issues are worked out and it's feasible for us to
make this move, we'll do ..."

No compatibility , No knowledge at IBM ... no wonder they don't mention a
time-frame .

As I could imagine, the Midrange archive search tool was made out of ... the
disgusting M$ Index server - not Netquestion or anything that would be used
on AS400.
One thing that is important on Web application (IMHO) is indexing and
search-tools, to get the maximum of all kinds of information.

Also, the Midrange monthly itself (dec.98 issue) favors the (... yes M$- !
...) Active Server Pages for web applications ...

Not to mention the 'competitive price' the AS400 offers (see Domino issue)
versus other systems.
What arguments can I still use for an AS400 solution?

I think I'm stuck with my back against the wall...
and have to give up ...
